The Methow Valley School Board has received three complete applications for a school board director position to replace the vacancy by Frank Kline, who resigned effective Sept. 1. The applicants are Kellie Zahn, a parent with two children in the district, Ina Clark, owner of Mountain to River Realty, and Ben Avery, State Director of the Sierra Club Washington Chapter.
The board will conduct interviews during their next meeting on Sept. 25 at 5:30 pm in MVE library. The appointed director will serve on the school board until a community election in 2027.
Clark was a finalist for a school board vacancy in January. The board selected Boo Schneider, who is running for election in November against Hilary Kaltenbach, president of Public School Funding Alliance and Program Coordinator for the Bush School’s campus in Mazama.
Linda McKay, Deputy Superintendent of North Educational Service District (NCESD) will facilitate the interviews and closed meeting evaluations. NCESD participated in the process of selecting Schneider in January.
School Board Chair Dana Stromberger thanked NCESD for their guidance in evaluating the candidates.
“[I’m] grateful to ESD for setting up that process in the previous round so that we didn’t have to recreate the wheel but we could rely on a professional, time tested matrix to evaluate. That was really helpful.”
