About 940 protesters attended the ‘No Kings’ rally in Twisp on Saturday, according to local organization Stand with Us, which organized the protests.
Five counters each counted “well over 900” people, according to organizer Isabelle Spohn, with the average being 940.
The demonstrations went peacefully with people visibly bonding through humor and shared ideology.
“Everybody pulled together. It was pretty spontaneous,” said Spohn.
“We don’t tell people what signs they have to make or who shows up. It’s something that you can’t control. People just do it spontaneously.”
Spohn said she was “overwhelmed” with the turnout, considering the cold weather.
The first nationwide ‘No Kings’ demonstration on June 14, which coincided with the president’s 79th birthday and a military parade commemorating the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, drew 700 protesters in Twisp.
Stand with Us has organized demonstrations in Twisp every Saturday since Feb. 17.
Spohn said the protests foster a sense of community and a “chance to express how they feel about the current Trump administration and so other people can see by the signs what people are thinking.”
The crowd demonstrated noon to one and fully dispersed by 1:20 pm.
