Following a recent wave of openings for leadership positions in the valley, new faces are trickling in to fill the void.

Classroom in Bloom announced this week that Julia Johannesen is stepping in as its new executive director in December. Johannesen comes from Colorado, where she worked most recently a wilderness medicine instructor. She also served as Director of Public and Environmental Health in Lake County, Colorado.

“I am thrilled to be stepping into the role of Executive Director at Classroom in Bloom and look forward to working alongside the incredible students, educators, and community members who make CiB such a vibrant and special place,” Johannesen said in a newsletter on Saturday sent by Classroom in Bloom. “The organization’s mission reflects the values that have guided my career- helping children grow healthy food, connect with nature, and learn through hands-on experiences.”

Merc Playhouse also has a new executive director- Mikayla Gonzalez, who will be commuting to her new role from Chelan. MVN reports Gonzalez, whose child is biracial, wants to not only elevate stories from Methow Descendants, but also produce shows in Spanish.

Winthrop Chamber has a new executive director beginning Dec. 1, outgoing executive director Ted Lafferty confirmed to MVE this past week, but he did not respond by press time as to the name of the new executive director.

Methow Valley Citizens Council is still looking for an executive director, as is Twispworks. Classroom in Bloom is looking for board members, especially with non-profit leadership and accounting and/or finance experience. Click here for an application.
