Interim Sheriff Jodie Barcus said she would continue to collaborate with federal agencies following former Sheriff Paul Budrow’s admission that he was threatened with removal for working with Border Patrol.

Barcus sent the following statement to MVE:

I am aware of the contact from the Attorney General’s Office. The Undersheriff and I are currently in discussions with our legal counsel regarding this matter. At this time, it would be premature for me to make any commitments concerning the situation or the letter received by former Sheriff Budrow.

I do not have any information indicating that former Sheriff Budrow would be removed within six months. However, I do believe the Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC) would take action, as it operates under the authority of the Attorney General’s Office.

The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office has consistently maintained a strong working relationship with our federal partners, and we will continue to collaborate with them in accordance with applicable state and federal law.
