MVSD received $6 million from the state’s Small School District Modernization Grant and an additional $600,000 in urgent funding to repair MVE’s leaky roof and restore brick and masonry around MVE this summer. The money will also be used to upgrade fire alarms, door lock security systems and clock intercom systems at MVE and LBHS as well as for sidewalk repairs at LBHS.
MVSD also received a planning grant to prepare applications for future modernization construction projects focused on site improvements such as parking lots, sidewalks and the tennis court.
However, MVSD is examining whether additional infrastructure investments are needed, which would be presented to the community as a bond levy. MVSD is contracting with King Architects, which serves as the technical advisor and Consertus, which is the planning advisor.
To put fresh eyes to the ground, MVSD is seeking “approximately 20” applicants to the Community Facility Task Force (CFTF) consisting of residents within the boundaries of MVSD.
Community members and parents from any profession are welcome to apply, although the district is also seeking applicants with experience in construction, facilities and finance. Applications are due to the Superintendent’s Office by 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026.
“The District is seeking individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives who are willing to collaborate, learn, and help shape the future of school facilities,” according to a press release.
The task force will also include two non-voting school board representatives, a representative from the teacher’s union, a representative from the classified union, the superintendent (who is non-voting), and administrative and/or support staff who are also non-voting and would support the administrative needs of the task force.
CFTF is tasked to deliver a long-range capital programming plan to the school board by May 27, 2027. The task force’s report is advisory to the superintendent and school board.
“While not a voting body, the task force will provide valuable input to the school district. The task force will work to understand divergent viewpoints and seek to achieve consensus when possible,” according to the task force’s charter.
Application can be submitted online or by paper.
Applications can also be picked up at the district office next to MVE.
