Let’s face it- things are getting complicated.
While there are lots of news options to choose from on the national front, there aren’t too many news sources at the local level.
If you’re relying on one weekly news source, you aren’t getting the whole picture.
Rely on two.
Last week, Methow Valley Examiner reported on an LBHS’ student arrest. If you relied on a weekly news source, you’d learn about it this Wednesday.
While the weekly news source is great for all-around information (and I read it myself), there are facts and viewpoints that are not represented. That’s just the nature of the current environment we find ourselves in and isn’t unique to us locally.
Compare, for example, coverage of the Snowball event that occurred this past weekend. You’ll see different, but important sides to the story.
You deserve to have both sides of the story.
Or, consider the weekly’s use of a picture of a demonstration as their Facebook banner with comments “limited.”
Let’s be honest- articles are written by people who can have sympathies toward one side or another, but a newspaper shouldn’t side with a “side.” They can make focused arguments in an editorial, but not, in general, a “side.”
Unfortunately, this has become a pattern and has affected what is and isn’t published in the valley.
If you have been enjoying the articles from MVE, don’t read around the edges.
Get the full story.
Subscribe and support another news source in the valley.
Sincerely,
Julia Babkina
