Now that the energy retrofit in the Methow Valley Community Center gymansium has been completed, the $3 million project is moving into individual offices and classrooms, including the library.
That means Saturday, Feb. 14 will be the last day the Twisp library will be open until mid-May, according to a press release.
Construction work includes replacing HVAC systems, upgrading internet service and electrical infrastructure, and adding insulation to exterior walls. The work requires closure of the library to access interior and exterior walls.
“The work done in the gym has made a big difference in how comfortable that space is for community members to use, so I’m excited to see the changes in the library space,” Twisp Librarian Ree West told MVE by email.
NCW Libraries is not financially responsible for the project, though NCW Libraries may pay to adjust electrical and data locations if needed. It is not part of the libraries’ Reimagining Spaces Project occuring in other libraries.
The Winthrop library will still be open during this time. The home library of all Twisp library patrons will temporarily be set to Winthrop for holds during the closure. West, who was the library manager in Winthrop, will be returning to the Winthrop library planning events and serving patrons.
“I already had Twisp library programs planned in March and April and I’m currently working to find as many alternative locations in the Twisp community as I can so they can still happen,” West told MVE.
NCW Libraries wants patrons to know that digital services — including eBooks, eAudiobooks, and online resources — will remain available 24/7 at ncwlibraries.org.
Patrons may also use NCW Libraries’ Mail Order service to receive materials by mail.
