Winthrop returned to normal, more or less, two days after a Level 3 evacuation notice left the town deserted.

Beneath the surface, the Hamilton Fire raised issues.

At a council meeting Wednesday night, Councilmember Marisa Monteverde said firefighters used the town’s sewer effluent ponds to douse the wildfire. Public Works Director Jake Gates said that kind of water disruption could have affected sewage released into the river.
