Hwy 153 just north of Carlton was closed for several hours as fire crews worked on a brush fire that reportedly started from a fuel line leak. Local resident Stefan Grimes saw smoke and drove toward it to help. As he drove nearer, he saw it was on his friend’s property.

“Not again,” he said to his friend, remembering the last time he was in this situation before picking up a shovel to help dig a fire line.

The fire was at one point a Level 3 Immediate Evacuation, but was reduced to Level 1 the same evening.

Officially called the Gun Dog Road Fire, the fire at Mile Post 25 between Carlton and Twisp burned 40 acres before it was contained.
