About twenty valley residents gathered Saturday morning in Winthrop in a demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine. A good number of those holding signs and waving at passing motorists at Winthrop’s 4-way stop sign had never attended a rally. Recent developments signalling a change in U.S. policy toward Ukraine and Russia prompted a “now’s the time” feeling amongst these rookie protestors. The rally was organized by Shannon Huffman Polson, a motivational speaker, former U.S. Army Apache helicopter pilot, and founder of the Grit Institute.
