MVSD Board of Directors have chosen two finalists, Grant Storey and Julie Price, to interview for the district’s next school superintendent.
A third candidate, Tom Korst, withdrew from consideration.
Storey is the Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Dual Credit Coordinator in the Methow Valley School District. Through community partnerships, Storey works on career-focused education and expanding opportunities for students to gain experience in careers aligned with their strengths and interests. He has attracted over $1 million in grants for the district, according to the district’s website.
After a storied career in Seattle, including multiple recognitions as a Distinguished Teacher (2016-2020) and the title of “Rock Star” Career and Technical Education Teacher in 2021, Storey joined MVSD in 2021 to develop the CTE program.
Last year, 71% of the graduating class completed a distinct CTE pathway, including earning industry-recognized credentials and college credits through partnerships with the University of Washington, Western Washington University, and Wenatchee Valley College.
In 2023, Storey was given the Regional Network Visionary Award, which recognizes individuals who have shown “exceptional foresight and innovation in career-connected learning.”
Storey has also been a Head Cross-Country Coach, Head Advisor for the HOSA Future Health Professionals Chapter, and Teacher Leader at Cleveland STEM High School. He also worked collaboratively to develop a curriculum for the University of Washington’s Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering and educational outreach for the Institute for Systems Biology.
Price taught middle school, specializing in math and science, including serving as a district math coach in the Central Valley School District. She has 16 years of experience in the classroom and 10 years as a principal. She helped establish a transitional kindergarten program.
“Julie has championed professional learning communities to create highly engaging, data-informed instruction that drives continuous academic growth,” states her bio on the MVSD website.
Price grew up on a farm and attended a small rural school district. She went to community college and became a dental assistant in San Diego. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, then a Master’s in Teaching and Principal Certification at Whitworth University. She completed a two-year Superintendent Certification at Washington State University in 2020.
MVSD will be hosting a forum with these candidates, using pre-selected questions, on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 7 pm at the MVE school library.
